FT in combination with WPA/EAP supported ?

Having a rather standard setup using WPA/EAP and a FreeRadius server I observe that FT is not working as expected. When giving a ft_ds command in wpa_cli, wpa_supplicant will show an error that the key management is not supported. Printing the actual key management type being used, it shows WPA (1) which is indeed not in the list of valid types in wpa_ft.c.

Any idea what might go wrong in this case ?
