Mathias, of course I should have added some smilies in my comment about the nationality bias - wasn't meant to be taken too serious. The essence is that I wanted a technical discussion rather than a comment that justifies a situation just because it is convenient for a part of the user base.

Mathias, you are right, my only concern is that the package is installed - that's why I reported it with 'very low' priority. I believe it should be an aim to keep the distribution as slim as possible without unnecessary dependencies. I'm sure this is a common goal as not everyone wants to run an extroot setup with virtually unlimited space and there are still many devices on the market with only 4 or 8 MB of flash memeory.

Thx for your example, it outlines why there should _not_ be a dependency betwenn br2684ctl and pppoe. Still it does not justify the dependency between br2684ctl and kmod-ltq-atm-vr9. So it remains a political decision to avoid dealing with effect of this change in  luci as mentioned by Kevin.

I can live with this as this would cost precious dev work to save some kb.
