I have seen now two patches to this topic, one from Jean, one from
Jouni. Unfortunately I couldn't get any of these to work with current
kernels.

I.e., I am running 2.6.14-rc2-mm1 and debian/sid, which ships
wpa_supplicant 0.4.4.

I tried with the two patches, the one didn't compile, the other did with
some hacks but didn't work, i.e. didn't associate with my wlan point.

Is there anything else I could try, a new version of the patch?

As I said, 2.6.14-rc2-mm1 with in kernel hostap drivers.
