You may want to try Orinoco driver (http://www.nongnu.org/orinoco/) 
instead.  At least some Proxim cards use Hermes chipset, which is not 
supported by HostAP.  If it's Hermes II chipset, try Agere driver from 
http://www.agere.com/support/drivers/
