What Am I Missing?

I have a couple of machines as follows:

RH 7.3, hostap_pci.o, wlan0 on 192.168.170.254, Netgear MA311 PCI card
Win2K, Netgear MA401 PC Card with the Netgear driver

They talk perfectly happily in Ad-Hoc mode, but whenever I put the Linux
box into Master mode and the Win2K box into its "Infrastructure" mode, the
game is over. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

What am I missing here? The Linux box is configured to route from the
wireless LAN to the rest of our setup - does Master mode require it to be
reconfigured as a bridge? I've got to be overlooking something simple . . .

One other question, while I'm at it: the PCI card is at the back of a
mini-tower box in the middle of a row of servers, where the cabling seems
to be screening its miniature antenna pretty badly, so I need to add an
external antenna higher up. The Netgear docs don't mention what the antenna
connector is, so does anyone know what that little threaded coax connector
is called? MMCX? RMMCX? SMA?

Thanks, and Compliments of the Season,
