What Am I Missing?

STA firmware? Good question - after doing some reading to find the answer,
I realised I needed to build the contents of the utils directory to get
hostap_diag. However, just running make results in violent objections to
/usr/src/linux/include/linux:
In file included from /usr/src/linux/include/linux/wireless.h:70,
from prism2_srec.c:20:
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/ethtool.h:18: parse error before `u32'
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/ethtool.h:18: warning: no semicolon at end of
struct or union
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/ethtool.h:19: warning: type defaults to `int'
in declaration of `supported'
and on, and on, and on, for pages. Strange, because ethtool.h looks
inoffensive enough on a cursory examination. However, I'm clearly going to
have to sort this out before I can get any further. This is on RH 7.3 with
kernel-source-2.4.18-18.7.x installed.
Does the W2K station associate with the hostap box in Master mode? No -
Win2K immediately shows "Network cable unplugged" and the Netgear control
panel applet shows the status as "Scanning". Switch both ends back to
Ad-Hoc, and it associates again.
Finally, I tracked down the connector type for the MA311, at
http://www.fulton.net.au/qt045.htm - the connector on the antenna (and
hence any cable) is a reverse polarity SMA (RP SMA) type. I'm just waiting
for a local distributor to email me back a quote on a cable and pigtail
lead, so that's one problem sorted. . .<grin>
BTW, I took the liberty of copying this, including your reply to the list;
hope you don't mind.
Best,

What STA firmware is on the MA401?
Does the W2K station associate with the HostAP Box in Master mode?
> What am I missing here? The Linux box is configured to route from the
wireless LAN to the rest of our setup - does Master mode require it to
be reconfigured as a bridge? I've got to be overlooking something simple
. . .
A bridge setup isn't necessary.
> One other question, while I'm at it: the PCI card is at the back of a
mini-tower box in the middle of a row of servers, where the cabling
seems to be screening its miniature antenna pretty badly, so I need to
add an external antenna higher up. The Netgear docs don't mention what
the antenna

connector is called? MMCX? RMMCX? SMA?
Good question -- I'd suspect a Google search on the card will turn up your
answer if someone here doesn't know.
