I've applied a variant of this (and the syslog one). Please test and let
me know if I broke anything.

Your patches with Java files didn't seem to contain anything but a
diffstat; I would have been interest to look over those too.

Do you have a git repository somewhere that I could just browse? If not,
I can give you an account on git.infradead.org and you can publish it
there...
