Routing to radius server

Hi,

  If its a switch(wired) on which 802.1x has to be run and if the radius
server is not local to the switch, how can the routing happen? Radius
Protocol is Layer 3 and switch is at layer 2, so, how will it route the
packet to the radius server?.

If thats the case, should we have a router connected to the switch to route
the radius packet thats constructed by the switch?
