Hmm.. That does not look good. Could you please send 'iw list' output?
See http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/iw if you do not
have a relatively recent version of iw. Please also send 'dmesg' output
after having started hostapd.

Not seeing SSID in iwconfig output is actually by design when using
driver=nl80211, so that can be ignored. Not seeing the AP is of course
not expected.
