Which is better way for scanning AP channel

Hello,

I want to improve performance of my wireless lan by selecting channel for
Access Points. At this stage I would like to configure my network to select
channel only at start one which is less noisy and high signal level.

Which method/way can be better to do so? Will ap_scan mode help me for doing
so? What exactly ap_scan does? Could anybody please guide me for the same.
