Bit error rate/Packet error rate measurement

Hi everyone,
  We need to test bit error rates for prism 3 cards at different
802.11bspeeds : 1, 2, 5 and 11 Mbps. My understanding is that this
metric will
characterize link layer errors and is dependent on the SNR at the card
receiver.

While manufacturer/vendor specs provide certain values, are these
verifiable? Is there any software available for this purpose?

Alternatively, are there any tools to measure packet error rate from which
we could derive the BER?
