automatic WDS in 0.1.2 broken?

I'm using it with success.  But I'm not using the pre-allocated
interfaces you describe below (I've used them with older versions of the
driver with success, however.)

Well, that behavior is normal if there is no other device to form a WDS
connection to.  

Assuming you do have another WDS capable device available you might want
to look at the firmware revision of your card.  Older revisions are
forced to use a non-standard WDS frame due to a firmware bug.  If you
are trying to talk to a device with standards-compliant WDS but are
forced to use non-compliant WDS, well, that's obviously not going to
work.
