non-volatile firmware update problems

i'm trying to update a firmware for:
NICID: 0x8002 v1.0.0 (STAID: 0x001f v0.7.8)
with STA 0.8.3, but prism_srec refuses to do this, and when i've looked
at the source - i know why:
(from hostap_download.c, line 356)
        case PRISM2_DOWNLOAD_NON_VOLATILE:
                ret = -EOPNOTSUPP;
                break;
and here is my question - is there any possibility to download a
firmware info non-volatile memory? or does anyone have a 0.8.3 firmware
for my NICID downloadable into RAM?

Ps. using CVS version from Wed Mar  5 16:05:37 CET 2003
PPs. I've also encountered some other errors and problems, but first i
want to be sure that it isn't fault of my firmware...
