Linksys WPC 11

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure that part of the problem is my lack of
understanding of the detection and iwconfig/ifconfig process.

After booting, I insert the card and iwconfig does not list wlan0 as I
expected (I assumed this must occur before I can ifconfig). Ifconfig -a
does list wlan0 but with no ip address.

Someone suggested that I do:

    iwconfig wlan0 mode managed

And then I did

    ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.45

both completed without error, but clearly something is wrong because
iwconfig reports the access point as 44:44:44:44:44:44. (but ifconfig
reports 966 RX packets!)

The only other problem I notice is that if I eject the card I get:

hostap_cs: release postponed wlan0 still locked

and I can't reinsert the card :
    requestID : resource in use

What happens if you use ifconfig to give wlan0 an IP?

If it loaded successfully you ought to be able to run ifconfig -a and see
the
interface even without an IP.
