Shake shake shake that tree!

Just to remind everyone that the deadline for ski deposits is just one
week away - November 7th! We can still accommodate a couple more
people, so come on - don't be shy :-)

Cheers,
Jes

Jes> Hi, Late as usual, but here it is. I have just gotten off the
Jes> phone with the ski resort people and I now have a number of units
Jes> on hold for our trip.

Jes> To recap, the dates will be March 8-15, 2008, in Avoriaz. We are
Jes> getting the same apartment types as we had last year, but this
Jes> time we are splitting them on a 3 person/apartment basis.

Jes> The price per person is as advertised in the previous email - EUR
Jes> 360 and a full week (6 day) ski pass is EUR 190.

Jes> For starters we will need a desposit of 25% of the apartment
Jes> cost, ie.  25% * EUR 360 == EUR 90.

Jes> I need to receive this money by November 7 to be able to
Jes> guarantee the apartments! However if you later find you won't be
Jes> able to make it, you are totally free to sell your slot to
Jes> someone else.

Jes> We have also tried to factor in a little extra to cover minor
Jes> additional expenses (like the EUR 2 or so hotel tax etc) so we
Jes> hope we won't have to come back and ask for additional money
Jes> later. Any money leftover we will put into the pot for a group
Jes> dinner one of the evenings.

Jes> For those of you sending money from far away, if you fancy
Jes> sending the full amount in one go, you are welcome to do
Jes> so. Otherwise just EUR 90 will do for now. If you want a ski pass
Jes> too, you can add that to full payment when you send it over.

Jes> Payments can be made to my French bank account or to paypal -
Jes> however if you pay via paypal the money comes from a credit card,
Jes> you need to add 3.6% to cover the service fees paypal will charge
Jes> me on the receiving side! (Emacs' Calc mode tells me that means
Jes> you have to send EUR 93.24).

Jes> Account information is as follows:

Jes> IBAN: FR76 1027 8073 6300 0201 8956 066 BIC (SWIFT): CMCIFR2A
Jes> Account info: Jes Sorensen 5 Hameau des Chenes 01710 Thoiry
Jes> France Bank info: Credit Mutuel Saint Genis Ferney 19 Rue de
Jes> Geneve 01630 St Genis Pouilly France

Jes> If you have any questions or comments, please speak up. Anybody
Jes> who sends me lots of money will be very popular :-)

Jes> Hope to see you all there! Reservations are on a first to pay the
Jes> deposit basis - bring yourself, your partner, your dog, your
Jes> fellow hacker friends!

Jes> Cheers, Jes

Jes> Hi,

Jes> Here it is, the thing we know you have all been waiting for! The
Jes> invitation for the ski and snowboarding and other cold things
Jes> trip in the French Alps for next year!

Jes> For those of you who didn't know you were waiting for this, then
Jes> about 15 of us went this year and had great fun in the snow! Of
Jes> course we have to say it was great, given we are the organizers
Jes> :-) For actual proof you can take a look at some of the pictures
Jes> found at http://bombadil.infradead.org/gallery2/main.php

Jes> Since you have all heard the rumors by now and want to sign up
Jes> for the 2008 trip, let us provide you with a few practical
Jes> details about it:

Jes> We plan to go back to Avoriaz at Portes du Soleil - for 2009 we
Jes> may try another resort, but now that we know the system a little
Jes> better we will try expanding at Avoriaz first. The resort is
Jes> composed of 14 smaller ski resorts some located on the Swiss and
Jes> the rest on the French side of the border and your skipass allows
Jes> one to go all over the place. The resort features over 200 lifts
Jes> according to their website:
Jes> http://www.portesdusoleil.com/index.php?saison=winter

Jes> We plan to use the same self catering apartments that we used
Jes> this year. However even though they are advertised for four
Jes> people, we found they are more appropriate for three (unless you
Jes> wish to bring your spouse and two kids).

Jes> The target is to take on up to eight (8) apartments. It will be
Jes> based on a first to pay the deposit, however if you sign up and
Jes> later find you have to drop out, you are welcome to sell your
Jes> slot to someone else of course. We anticipate needing deposits by
Jes> the end of October - we will communicate more details when we
Jes> have a feel for how many people wish to go.

Jes> Also feel free to pass this invitation on to relevant interested
Jes> parties - if you are unsure, feel free to ask. We'd like happy
Jes> skiers (or snowboarders). Although we would prefer that you
Jes> didn't invite the kind of troublemaker who loses their passport
Jes> and require to be driven to Geneva mid-week to get a new one to
Jes> get home!

Jes> Estimated prices will be (per person):

Jes> Accommodation[1]: EUR 360 6 day skipass[2]: EUR 190 Dates: March
Jes> 8-15 (or 15-22 if there is strong group pressure for that!)
Jes> Ski/snowboard hire: Depends on type and whether you have your
Jes> own! Ski/snowboard lessons[3]: Can be pre-ordered or when you
Jes> get there. Food/drinks: Cook in or eat out depending on your
Jes> budget Transport to resort[4]: For you to figure out :)

Jes> 1: This includes occupancy taxes and ski accident insurance. The
Jes> ski insurance is to cover them picking you up on the mountain and
Jes> taking you to the medical center in case of accident - it does
Jes> not cover regular travel medical insurance. 2: If 13 people book
Jes> in advance we should get a 10% discount on these. Absolute
Jes> beginners may want to start out with a local skipass just for the
Jes> Avoriaz resort for the first 1-2 days while taking lessons. 3:
Jes> We _strongly_ recommend beginners take a few lessons, you will
Jes> get much more out of the trip by doing so - don't have actual
Jes> prices at hand, but it is not too expensive. 4: We will try and
Jes> organize group transport from Geneva airport like we did this
Jes> year.

Jes> This time we have tried to cover all costs up front so we don't
Jes> have to ask for additional small payments later down the
Jes> line. Any more leftover we will put towards a group dinner by the
Jes> end of the trip.

Jes> We would appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible
Jes> whether you can make it. Answers along the lines:

Jes> a) I'll be there; I'll swim there if I have to. b) I'd love to
Jes> be there and there's a good chance I'll make it c) I've like to
Jes> go but the chances are 50/50 d) My name is still Werner; I am
Jes> still here just to heckle!

Jes> So what else do you need to do at this point? Mark your calendar,
Jes> sign up to the mailing list (if you haven't already done so) and
Jes> tell us that you are coming!

Jes> Mailing list subscriptions at:
Jes> http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/skigeek

Jes> We look forward to hearing from you and even more to see you
Jes> there!

Jes> The skicabal! ----------
