Having worked with tcpdumps for months, I should have thought of that before

It will boot fine with straight kernel.org tarball, built with "make
netwinder_defconfig; make zImage".  The debian folks have more work to do
since they use the same binary for multiple ARM machines.

Can you make a tcpdump on the tftp server so we can see what's happening?
