Yes, the card works fine in my ThinkPad.

The problem I believe is to do with resource allocation when I use the 
PCMCIA bridge in a 1u server.

No, that is not needed.

serial_cs should be able to do that on its own, if the PCMCIA bridge can 
allocate it the resources.
