In general, support for older kernels can be spotty and often the best
response is "err, well, use a current kernel".

The 2.4 kernel PCMCIA support was never well maintained. I am listed
as being nominally the maintainer, but I didn't do much of the work to
integrate my original pcmcia-cs code into the kernel (Linus did much
of it), and I'm not very familiar with some of this code. Also I
spend little time working on PCMCIA now.

Since people who do work on PCMCIA these days are now all using 2.6
kernels, your chances of getting useful support would be much better
if you also used 2.6.
