Xircom pcmcia CEM56 eth/modem combo works on thinkpad 390 but not 600

the thinkpad that doesn't work has a winmodem. There's 
conflicts when I boot the machine up in W2K and haven't
got it to work there either.

Is the winmodem likely to be causing problems in 
linux-2.6.13? If so, what do I do?
