Please be patient. In over my head on port problem.

I am running Suse Pro 9.2 using kernel 2.6.8-24.11-default.
I have a AirPrime PCMCIA wireless card I am trying to get to connect as
per the instructions at:
http://www.ka9q.net/5220.html
Now, the card is found (following the directions at the above named
website), as lspci -vv reports:
0000:03:00.0 USB Controller: Agere Systems (former Lucent
Microelectronics) USS-312 USB Controller (rev 10) (prog-if 10 [OHCI])
Subsystem: Agere Systems (former Lucent Microelectronics)

PME(D0-,D1+,D2+,D3hot+,D3cold-)
Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=1 PME-
So far so good. the problem is that port 1 can not be enabled. (Works
fine under W$).
demesg reports:
usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using address 2
BIOS EDD facility v0.16 2004-Jun-25, 1 devices found
usb 5-1: device not accepting address 2, error -110
hub 5-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 1. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using address 4
usb 5-1: Product: AirPrime CDMA Wireless PC Card
usb 5-1: Manufacturer: AirPrime, Incorporated
I know this is not probably the kind of thing this group is about, but
until I can fix this, I am forced to use W$ on the road, (something I
have not done for 2 years), which is a real pain, not to mention the
danger involved.
Thank you so much in advance!
