I spoke too soon :-(.  The first boot on 2.6.13-rc3 was fine.  Every
boot since then has reflected no change relative to the 2.6.12 behavior.
The "cardmgr" process racks up CPU time almost as fast as time
elapses: it's at the top of the "top" list.
