Dropping top nibble of device id

Thanks to the suggestion of kernel paramter, pci=assign-busses I now see my 
card in lspci.  This is also ok in 2.4.13-rc2 without the pci= parameter.

However the top 4 bits of the card id seem to be dropped somewhere, ie.

lspci -n shows -

0000:04:00.0 Class 0280: 104c:0400

but it should be

0000:04:00.0 Class 0280: 104c:8400

Result is the driver doesn't recognise the card.

Any ideas?
