Compile pd6729 driver with irq=0 support for kernel 2.6.8-1-386

I understand that the pd6729 driver will support irq=0 with kernel 2.6.11.
But I am running debian sarge and the newest stock kernel is 2.6.8. I would
rather not upgrade to debian unstable because I am blind and use a screen
reader and I am worried it could get messed up.
So can I recompile just the pd6729 driver and install just that? If so how
would I go about doing that?
