[Fwd: irq 9: nobody cared! after moving from 2.4.19 to 2.6.11.5]

Hi,

I've been following the thread

Re: Bug#270376: PCMCIA Nic stops working after upgrading to 2.6.6/7/8

as I have also been having problems with
my PCMCIA card (actually I think its a Cardbus card, but I'm not sure)
since moving from 2.4.19 to 2.6.8.1.
With 2.6.8.1 the machine (a Sony Vaio Laptop FX401 (PCG972-M) with a
belkin 802.11b (atmelwlan driver) would boot ok, but X11 would crash the
kernel if the card was enabled. Workaround there was to cardctl eject
0, start X11, cardctl insert 0. That normally worked. I then upgraded
to 2.6.11.5 with and without the recently posted TI patch from the above thread and now the network
connection does not come up properly even without X.

On booting with the patch and with the card inserted, dmesg reports this and lspci -vv
follows the dmesg output

After booting the card power led is on, and the activity led is on continuously (normally flashes) and
dmesg logs "interface not ready yet" repeatedly.

Not sure if its relevant, but you'll notice that I have lapic in the kernel options (the only option) as
without it I get a message like "APIC disabled by the BIOS, enable with "lapic"

** PCI interrupts are no longer routed automatically. If this
** causes a device to stop working, it is probably because the
** driver failed to call pci_enable_device(). As a temporary
** workaround, the "pci=routeirq" argument restores the old
