block erase error: (bad VPP)

Hi,
I've been getting these errors for a while now and I'm not sure why.
I get thess when I boot the system and It shouldn't be trying to erase anything.
I boot with
root=/dev/mtdblock2 rootfstype=cramfs
mtdparts=physmap-flash.0:0x40000(boot),0x180
000(kernel),0x640000(root),0x400000(var),-(str)

Can someone tell me why this happens?

Erase at 0x00180000 failed immediately: errno -5

Erase at 0x00140000 failed immediately: errno -5
physmap-flash.0: block erase error: (bad VPP)
Erase at 0x00100000 failed immediately: errno -5
physmap-flash.0: block erase error: (bad VPP)
Erase at 0x000c0000 failed immediately: errno -5
physmap-flash.0: block erase error: (bad VPP)
...
