Thank you Mathias, unfortunately I cannot risk a remote firmware update that would break my connection permanently. My only PPPoE routers giving this issue are in Italy and I am in the UK which is using different PPPoA standards.

Are you saying that r5620 has the same software as r5053 (last known working for me), with the interface name being the only difference?
