why would it be bad practice? we have md5/sha256 to check archive integrity. downloading toolchain with make download was capped at ~ 520KB/s.
i stopped download and restarted with make download -j 7, overall speed was about 2.5-3MB/s on a 50Mbps connection. adding more mirrors is not a solution.
