Did you try to use the factory image first? What was the result?

Would you please add a warning to https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/linksys/linksys_ea8500 that one has to do the following before installing LEDE/OpenWrt the fist time:


  * if the currently running linksys firmware is < 1.1.4.69978 install (at least) 1.1.4.69978 **twice** to make sure the primary and the secondary partition have a compatible format
  * install (at least) 1.1.4.69978 **once** to make sure that the secondary/backup partition is compatible with OpenWrt/LEDE as well
