Assuming the driver you are using supports running a scan while
operating as an AP (including P2P GO), you could simply run a scan and
search for P2P groups (SSID has "DIRECT-" prefix and something after
that). "wpa_cli scan" followed by "wpa_cli scan_results" would show such
results with the [P2P] flag.
