Documentation support for hostapd and wpa supplicant

Hi,
    I am new to hostapd and wpa supplicant concept.  Is there any
documentation for the hostapd and wpa supplicant? Is there any
specification that it has to follows?


I have come across the IEEE802.11 standard. Is these standard implemented
in the hostapd and wpa supplicant?
