clients disconnecting. hostapd basic setup with b43 on ubuntu 11.10

Hi!
I have a basic setup of hostapd, followed
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Documentation/hostapd.
interface=wlan0
driver=nl80211
ssid=badlands
channel=8
hw_mode=g

The hotspot starts ok, but I'm unable to get the clients connected.
Tried with dnsmasq, and static ips.
I tried some portable devices and win7 box. Win 7 says
connecting....takes too long to connect....disconnects.
Android phone is able to connect but gets reconnected every 2 secs
until totally disconnected. Same is with WM phone.
Kindle is unable to connect.
