How to configure supplicant to only scan but not associate to AP

Hi Jouni and Ben,
Thanks for your suggestions.
Would setting wpa_s->conf->ap_scan to 1 help? (and 2 when association is
required?) ofcourse if associated, the code coudl first disconnect.
