Question on reconfigure and changing SSID.

I notice that if I change ssids to something that
doesn't show up in a scan, the station stays associated
to the old AP, even though ssids don't match.
I would expect the station to instead un-associate.
I'm changing with wpa_cli 'reconfigure'.
Is this current behaviour on purpose?
