Hello.

I have a card which identifies itself as
RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

It is plugged into a Debian machine which is a bit unusual, it is an old
box, alpha achitecture.

After reading forum of ralink driver developers site I
compiled 2.6.26 kernel with 008-allow-ap-vlan-modes.patch from
http://johannes.sipsolutions.net/patches/old/all/2008-10.tar.bz2

I compiled hostapd 0.6.9.

And when I start it I get an error
13:48 sacha at vinci:~ 95> sudo /usr/sbin/hostapd -dd /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf
Configuration file: /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf
ctrl_interface_group=0
ioctl[SIOCSIFFLAGS]: Link has been severed
nl80211 driver initialization failed.
wlan0: Unable to setup interface.
rmdir[ctrl_interface]: No such file or directory
ELOOP: remaining socket: sock=5 eloop_data=0x1200df450 user_data=(nil) handler=0x120053aa0

An odd thing I noticed is that every time I start hostapd it leaves
wlan0 in repeater mode.

Does anyone have an idea what is wrong there?

Thanks,
A
