Authentication timeout with wext driver and ipw3945 card

I've tried both, and in the first case wpa_supplicant tries to connect
continuously
without results, and in the output I notice this phrase:

ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument
Driver did not support SIOCSIWENCODEEXT
WPA: Failed to set PTK to the driver.
...
In the second case nothing significant seems to happen (well, to me).

My kernel is the vanilla 2.6.21.5, the ipw3945 driver is the 1.2.2 (firmware
1.14.2),
and I've built 802.11 stack and mac like a module, during kernel compiling.
I've already enabled debugging for mac, ieee802.11 and ipw driver, tell me
if (and how) I could give you more informations.
