Hi Richard,
The cards I used (MiniPCI, not PCMCIA) for my embedded solutions are:
1. Prism2.5-based card (e.g. Senao 2511MP Plus) - hostap driver
2. PrismGT (e.g. RM2) - prism54 driver (hardmac)
3. Atheros (e.g. CM9 or Senao NMP-8602 Plus ) - madwifi-ng driver
All works great under master mode in my voyage linux box.
hostap and prism54 are natively supported in the recent 2.6 kernels.
For Atheros, you will need to patch the kernel with madwifi-ng driver
or compile as external module.
There are some more cards that support Master mode (i.e. AP), but it
needs the kernel patches or uses a special kernel tree (the dscape
stack) and it is not very straightforward.
