when you see signal level = -100Bm, it means that your card is not getting
any signal at all.

The following configuration script works fine for me when I have to put my
cards into pseudo ibss mode :

iwconfig wlan0 essid XYZ
iwconfig wlan0 channel 1
iwconfig wlan0 mode Ad-Hoc
prism2_param wlan0 pseudo_ibss 1
prism2_param wlan0 oper_rates 8

Subject: Network crash in pseudo ad-hoc

Sorry but I also forgot to add my iwconfig which is weird after the
setting to pseudo ad-hoc:

[root at monaco ~]# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

wifi0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"mtx-client" Nickname:"monaco.uni.lux"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.467 GHz Access Point: None
          Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Sensitivity=1/3
          Retry min limit:8 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off

wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"mtx-client" Nickname:"monaco.uni.lux"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.467 GHz Access Point: None
          Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Sensitivity=1/3
          Retry min limit:8 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality=0/70 Signal level=-100 dBm Noise level=-100 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:7 Invalid misc:422 Missed beacon:0

As you can see the signal level = noise level. The card after this is
blind!!! Dead link.i cannot ping anything...
