wifi0/wlan0 confusion

I'm having difficulty getting my Netgear MA401 PCMCIA card to work with the
hostap_cs module. I'm thoroughly confused over what the interface name should
be, here's the relevant log

I can see the module loads fine and sees the card but I can't understand why
it assigns it to wifi0 and then cardmgr tries to start wlan0. What should the
interface be called? Why is there a discrepancy?

The card works fine using orinoco_cs, but that uses eth2 as the device name.

This is on Mandriva 10.2, 2.6.11 kernel (which includes hostap drivers 0.2.6),
pcmcia-cs 3.2.8
