Integrated EAP authentication and CA, Server and Cleint certificates

I want to know do i need the certificates(CA and Server) when using
hostapd's integrated EAP authentication, or it can just ignore the
certificates. Also same question on wpa_supplicant side that do i need
to CA and client certificates when on other side it is integrated EAP
authenticator of hostapd. I want to test just EAP/TLS functionality.
