plz help to install hostap

Hi all,
I installed hostap.  when I go to enable wlan0 (ifup
wlan0), it gives me this:
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
    SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
then I did iwconfig wlan0 essid mnet (mnet is my
essid), and I couldn't connect to my network becuase
when I typed in dhclient, it just kept going like this
(posted at the end of this message)

Please help me to get this thing to work 

(eth1 is my wired network card).
