tx power related problem.

Hi All,
I am trying to reduce the transmission power of my
802.11 PCI card. It is US robotics prism2 based
chipset. This I want to do to set up a multi hop
connection i.e try to isolate a machine from a third
machine which can be reached through an intermediate
machine.I am using hostAP  0.2.4 driver.
I tried:
 iwconfig wlan0 txpower <somevalue>
    Error for wireless request "Set Tx Power" (8B26)
    Set failed on device wlan0 operation not
supported.
I also tried to disable auto control of power through
    iwpriv wlan0 alc 5 0 
    iwpriv wlan0 prism2_param 5 0
  but not sure which actually is needed for reducing
the power.
Then I tried setting the power to -22.5dbm by
    iwpriv wlan0 writemif 62 120

Is this right?I am not able o observe visible
changes.Also could anyone please tell me the minimum
power value.
