bridge handling of own address

Not really sure if this is a hostap question or a bridging question - so I
apologize if this is the wrong forum in advance. Normally a linux bridge
ties two ports and what goes in one goes out the other. The exception to
this rule would be when a packet is directed to the node itself (e.g. the
bridge address??) In this case it should not be passed on but responded to
via the same port on which it was received. So where is this exception
handled? I thought it would be in the bridge code, but it appears not. So
is it up to the hostap driver to handle this case? Thanks!
