causes and solutions to frequent transmit timeouts?

i've recently started using the driver with an SMC EZ Connect Wireless card 
(SMC2632W, version 1) on our office network and have noticed quite a few 
transmit timeout errors that result in card resets.  its quite possible that 
the network is less-than-optimally configured.  does anyone know how i should 
go about troubleshooting this problem?  are there any card parameters that 
could be adjusted to compensate for the network?
