The card is OK, but if you are going to use Host AP mode, you better
upgrade or downgrade that station firmware code. Version 1.4.2 does not
work properly in Host AP mode.

You need to associate this device to hostap_cs driver in pcmcia-cs
(cardmgr) configuration. This is usually in /etc/pcmcia directory. If
you have installed linux-wlan-ng, you might need to remove its
configuration file or change it to select which driver to use.

Version number of the driver (and yes, it has always been 0.0.0 ;-).
