Hi Vangelis,
Thanks for correcting my syntax.  I was looking at the reference but not 
sure how to add the two expressions.  Here is what I now have:-

alastair at ibmserver2:~> get_iplayer --prefs-show
Options in '/home/alastair/.get_iplayer/options'
         ffmpeg = /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg
         tvmode = best
         refreshinclude = Radio 3,Radio 4
         output = /home/alastair/GiP_Recordings

         refreshexcludegroups = local
         refreshexclude = CBBC,CBeebies
