Stalled TV downloads

I'm not sure it's a problem with your connection. I use a VPS which
has, I believe, reliable and fast bandwidth (downloading a 91M package
just now I got 7.34 megabytes/second) and I often see problems with
stalled downloads.

I have wondered if it's related to time of day, but it seems to occur
with similar frequency when I download during weekday daytime.

I usually see various kinds of RTMP errors, but I'm not familiar with
RTMP to understand what they are telling me - I just restart and retry
until successful.

As another data point, I get similar issues when trying to using
get_flash_videos (which uses rtmpdump behind the scenes) so it's not
just BBC/iPlayer or rtmpdump related.
