You could've also found this via URL sniffin' (Firefox's WebConsole
with "filter" term ".xml" (without quotes).

Well, it looks like that either you're not a good learner
or you have a short retention (meant in a most friendly fashion
here, not judging at all...).
I have provided the solution to this only exactly one month ago,
again pertaining to an archive F1 clip:
http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/get_iplayer/2015-July/007927.html
I am often being verbose in my troubleshooting
with the aim being the OP (having the issue) actually
learns something along the way, so he/she in the future
can deal with a similar issue on his/her own steam
(the "teach a man to fish..." argument...).
Am I not doing right?
With regards to your latest archive clip,
you'll find that:
get_iplayer --type=tv --url="http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/emp/8670000/8676900/8676972.xml"
--mediaselector=4 --modes=best --file-prefix="Classic F1 - Monaco Grand
Prix 1984 Extended Highlights" --raw --force
(video restricted to UK-only,
however not on FMS level...)
will down your clip as .FLV file;
omit --raw and you'll get a somewhat
larger .AVI file (due to overhead).
It is a good idea to specify a trimmed down filename,
because these archive clips tend to come down with
huge filenames (the .xml playlist URL contained therein)
and depending on the storage folder, you can hit the
256 character limit for file path on Windows.
Regards to the clear waters
and skys of Scotland,
Vangelis.
