yes, you need this option:

 --aactomp3                       Transcode AAC audio to MP3 with
ffmpeg (CBR 128k unless --mp3vbr is specified)

do
$ get_iplayer --long-help

to get full list of the many and various options that do pretty much
anything you can think of...
