Surely it's "pid=xxxx" not, "pid xxxx", is it not? That's what I always use 
and it works fine.

Eg,

get_iplayer --mode=flashhigh --pid=b01n1tbz

should download episode 2 of the BBC4 series "Love and Marriage".
