as a matter of priority, please?

So long as the master / git versions are broken, there will be more users getting themselves into a situation in which --update doesn't work. Currently --update from a version with a working --update updates to a version in which --update is broken.

I am sorry that the fault here in mine. But a 2.80 with this fix (if no other changes from 2.79) would probably be a Good Idea.
